The Ultimate Pickler’s Guide to Newport Beach, California

The Consumer Cellular USA Pickleball Newport Beach Championships are right around the corner and Pickleball in the Sun has everything you need to know to plan an unforgettable weekend on Southern California’s beautiful Pacific Coast.

Without a doubt, Southern California is high on the list as a pickleball player's dream destination. Between the sandy beaches, towering palms, and the stunning ocean backdrop, SoCal has a plethora of pickleball opportunities that are comparable to none. 

Luckily enough, the Consumer Cellular USA Pickleball Newport Beach Championships are taking place in the heart of it all - Newport Beach, California. From June 28 through July 3, 2022, picklers from all over the country will be flooding the city in huge numbers for the chance to experience pickleball in one of the nation’s most stunning beach-side towns. The tournament will be held at The Tennis & Pickleball Club at Newport Beach, a prestigious sports club home to tennis and pickleball since the 1960’s. 

If you’ve never visited Newport Beach fear not - many who attend the tournament may be from out of town as well. As the tournament draws closer, Pickleball in the Sun took the time to map out the Ultimate Picklers’ Guide to Newport Beach, a short directory for making the trip out west one you’ll never forget. 

  1. Newport Beach

The iconic coast of Newport Beach is a tourist attraction you won’t want to miss. Relax on the clean sandy beaches while enjoying a view of surfers, wind surfers, volleyball, kayaking, and more. 

2. Crystal Grove State Park

Have an afternoon off from watching the tournament? Head to Crystal Grove State Park in Laguna Beach, California. The park boasts stunning scenic views with over 3 miles of pristine beaches and shoreline. If you aren’t a huge fan of the beach, explore the thousands of miles of backcountry home to some of the best hiking in the state. 

3. Balboa Fun Zone

If you are traveling with children, the Balboa Fun Zone may be the perfect excuse to spend a Saturday night on the pier! With a combination of amusement parks, arcades, festival rides and more, the Balboa Fun Zone is bound to have a fun activity for everyone in the family to enjoy. And, it’s located right on the harbor with breathtaking views of the Pacific ocean.

4. Newport Beach Pier

Of course, The Newport Beach Pier is a staple for anyone visiting Newport Beach. With picturesque views of the beach and the ocean, the pier offers a fabulous spot to watch surfers and sunsets or to amble along and grab a bite to eat as well.
